– A positive serology will give access to a 90-day pass
The Covid certificates of cured people (with PCR test) will also be valid for twelve months, instead of six, from November 16.
People cured will have easier access to the health pass on national soil. The Federal Council decided on Wednesday to introduce a “Swiss Covid certificate”.
The validity of the certificate will be extended from six to twelve months for those cured, whose illness has been confirmed by a PCR test. Current data show that recovered people have sufficient protection against severe forms of the disease and hospitalizations.
However, the Federal Council advises these people to be vaccinated once from the fourth week after infection. In this case, a vaccination certificate will be issued for twelve months.
This change comes into effect on November 16. It is only valid in Switzerland. In Europe, the validity of these certificates is limited to 180 days.
People who can present a recent positive serological test will also be able to obtain the certificate from November 16. The test will be chargeable. The pass will be valid for 90 days. A new test can then be performed. If it is still positive, the certificate will be renewed. The latter will only be valid in Switzerland.
From mid-December, the “Swiss Covid certificate” will also be issued for a period of one year for people who cannot be vaccinated or tested for medical reasons. These already have access with a certificate to establishments, facilities and events requiring the presentation of the pass. However, this possibility only concerns a limited number of people.
Easy access for tourists
To support tourism and the economy, all tourists vaccinated abroad with a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization will obtain the “Swiss Covid certificate” for 30 days.
This concerns people vaccinated with Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines. Tourists who have been inoculated with vaccines approved by Swissmedic or the European Medicines Agency already receive a certificate valid in Switzerland and in the European Union.
The quality of the results of nasal swabs is insufficient. Tests that use this process will no longer give access to a Covid certificate. Only antigen tests with nasopharyngeal swabs will be authorized.
This reduces the risk of an infected person obtaining a certificate thanks to a false negative, explains the Federal Council. The tests will have to be carried out by medical personnel or at least trained to do them such as civilians or medical students.
The government has again decided to extend the coverage of the costs of the tests for people who have received a first dose of the vaccine. Primary vaccinees cannot yet obtain a certificate.
The costs of the tests will be borne by the Confederation up to six weeks after the first dose. Beyond that, the person will have to pay out of pocket. The assumption of costs was initially limited to the end of November.
The amount paid by the Confederation for rapid antigenic tests will increase from 47 to 36 francs at most. It will only be possible to charge the Confederation the maximum amount that people would have to pay out of pocket. Rapid antigen tests will cost at most the same as pooled saliva PCR tests for individuals.
The booster vaccine will be free as long as it is administered according to vaccination recommendations.
